Personal Awards was started in 1976 by Ray and Sandy McDonald in their home in South San Francisco. The equipment used to make trophies consisted of a drill press, hand saw and pantograph manual engraving machine. After the business overtook the home’s space, it was moved to an office/warehouse unit in Brisbane, California, where it resided until 1999. Although the main focus of the business started as trophy and plaque making, it ventured out into screen printing T-shirts and embroidering apparel in 1988. The business was acquired by son Ray McDonald in 1991 and was moved to San Mateo in 1999 where it has been ever since.
